The Kaduna State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspects in connection with the shocking case of a 20-year-old man who was buried alive in Zaria. According to ASP Mansir Hassan, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, the arrest was made after a disturbing video circulated showing the victim buried with only his head exposed.
The victim, from Gauraki village, had previously worked with the suspects at a construction site in Abuja. However, a dispute arose over a stolen cell phone worth N35,000, which the victim was accused of stealing. The suspects, who are siblings, decided to deduct the cost of the phone from the victim’s daily wages. The situation escalated when the victim left Abuja for Zaria, but the suspects followed him, abducted him, and buried him alive in an uncompleted building on August 10.
Fortunately, a passerby heard the victim’s cries and alerted the authorities, leading to his rescue. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime. Commissioner of Police Audu Ali has cautioned the public against taking the law into their own hands, assuring that the case will be thoroughly and professionally investigated.
The police spokesperson emphasized that the suspects’ actions were a result of a petty dispute that escalated into a horrific crime. The case highlights the importance of seeking legal recourse rather than resorting to violence. The police are working to ensure that justice is served, and the public is urged to remain calm and cooperative throughout the investigation.
