Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has stated that he will withdraw his presidential aspiration if former President Goodluck Jonathan decides to run for the top seat in 2027.
Mohammed, a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governor, made this declaration on Thursday at the Government House in Bauchi, while receiving a call to run for the presidency from a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO).
The governor expressed his admiration for Jonathan’s leadership qualities and experience, saying he would be a better candidate for the job. Mohammed praised Jonathan’s past achievements, including his inclusive leadership style and initiatives for unemployed youths.
Mohammed clarified that his criticisms of President Bola Tinubu’s administration are intended to help put the country on the right path, emphasizing his responsibility as a leader to speak out.
This development indicates a potential shift in the 2027 presidential race, as Mohammed’s decision to step aside for Jonathan could significantly impact the PDP’s nomination process.
