President Bola Tinubu has ordered the production of specialized assault rifles, dubbed BAT-1, for the Nigerian military, as part of the government’s efforts to enhance the country’s defense capabilities and address contemporary security challenges.
The President made this disclosure at the 60th anniversary of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) and the inaugural Africa Defence Industries Conference in Abuja, where he was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen George Akuma.
Tinubu emphasized DICON’s potential to be a leading player in Africa’s defense industry, stating that his administration will invest substantially in the corporation to ensure it delivers on its mandate efficiently within the 2030 roadmap timeframe.
The newly automated production lines will provide the armed forces with advanced equipment, including various categories of ammunition, Mine Resistant Ambush Patrol Vehicles, Armoured Personnel Carrier, drones, and unmanned ground vehicles, tailored to contemporary challenges.
This move aims to enhance Nigeria’s defense infrastructure, ensuring peace and prosperity for the nation.
