The Benue State Executive Committee (SEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) met today at the Government House, Makurdi, to discuss and approve the schedule of activities for the forthcoming local government elections in the state.
During the meeting, which was chaired by the Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, a five-member Election Management Committee was inaugurated to oversee the conduct of credible primaries. The committee is chaired by Hon. James Ornguga.
The SEC also approved the cost of nomination forms, with the chairmanship form set at 5 million naira and the councillorship form at 500,000 naira, in addition to auxiliary party support levies.
Furthermore, the meeting approved the use of direct primary mode for nominating candidates, and directed the immediate sale of nomination and expression of interest forms, starting from tomorrow, Friday, August 16, 2024.
The Election Management Committee has vowed to conduct a fair and transparent process, with the overall interest of the state and the masses in mind.
Other members of the committee include Sen. Dr. Joseph Akaagerger, Alh. Abubakar Aseer Ihongo, Barr. Jillah Cleopas Vershima Tolu, Hon. Ajoma Success Ode, Hon. Chiahemba Emmanuel, and Hon. Ben Eka, who will serve as secretary.
