Benue State Governor Condemns Attack on Ayati Settlement, Vows to Protect Citizens

Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has expressed deep sadness and strong condemnation over the recent unprovoked attack on Ayati settlement in Ukum Local Government Area, resulting in the loss of several lives.

Governor Alia described the attack on unarmed innocent citizens as “heinous” and worrying, despite the state’s strong security presence and ongoing dialogue sessions with stakeholders and traditional rulers to restore peace in Sankera.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting Benue people, particularly in Ukum, which has been frequently attacked. Governor Alia urged security personnel to enhance surveillance and safeguard vulnerable communities.

The Governor extended condolences to families who lost loved ones, offering thoughts of comfort and prayers. He assured that his administration will continue exploring measures to restore peace in Sankera, ensuring the region can live harmoniously once again.

The incident has sparked concerns about the effectiveness of security measures in the region, and the Governor’s response aims to reassure citizens of his commitment to their safety and well-being.
