Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal Government has announced that civil servants will be the first beneficiaries of the 50kg bag of rice to be sold at N40,000. Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, revealed that the decision is due to the availability of accurate data in the sector, ensuring proper documentation of the sale.
The government’s initiative aims to address the ongoing hunger protests and provide relief to citizens. The rice will be distributed through designated centers across the country, with civil servants prioritized due to their verifiable data system.
Minister Kyari also noted that the suspension of import duties on food items will end in November, coinciding with the expected harvest season. The government has imported 300,000 to 400,000 metric tonnes of staple foods per month to address the lean season, which will last until the harvest period.
