In a bid to drive economic growth, foster innovation, and ensure the well-being of citizens in Edo State, Dr. Dennis Osahon Aikoriogie, the gubernatorial candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), has unveiled comprehensive plans for skills development and support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the state.
Education Reform and Access:
Dr. Aikoriogie aims to implement education reform initiatives to enhance the quality and relevance of the education system in Edo State. This includes ensuring equitable access to education for all citizens, regardless of their socio-economic background, gender, or location. Scholarships, bursaries, and other support mechanisms will be provided to ensure every citizen has access to quality education.
Technical and Vocational Training:
Recognizing the need to equip Edo State’s youth with practical skills that align with the needs of the labor market, Dr. Aikoriogie plans to strengthen technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programs. Vocational training centers will be established in each local government area, offering courses in areas such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical installation, automotive mechanics, and more.
Support for SMEs:
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are considered the backbone of Edo State’s economy, driving innovation, job creation, and economic growth. Dr. Aikoriogie’s administration is committed to providing comprehensive support and assistance to help SMEs thrive. This includes establishing a dedicated fund for SME financing, providing low-interest loans and grants for business expansion, innovation, and capacity building. Additionally, capacity building and technical assistance will be offered to empower SME owners and entrepreneurs, including training programs, workshops, mentorship programs, and access to business advisory services.
