Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – In a swift response to the growing Mpox outbreak, the African Union (AU) has approved an emergency allocation of $10.4 million to support the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) in its efforts to combat the spread of the disease across the continent.
The decision was made by the Permanent Representatives Committee of the AU, which recognized the urgent need for additional resources to tackle the outbreak. The funds will be drawn from existing COVID-19 resources, demonstrating the AU’s commitment to addressing emerging health crises.
The Africa CDC will utilize the allocated funds to enhance surveillance, contact tracing, laboratory testing, and vaccination efforts, among other initiatives. This support is crucial in mitigating the impact of the Mpox outbreak and protecting the health and well-being of Africans.
