Benue Governor Revokes SIEC Chairman’s Appointment Over Poor Judgment

Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, has approved the removal of Dr. John Chem as the chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC). The decision follows a recommendation by the state House of Assembly on Wednesday, citing poor judgment and actions that fall short of public interest.

According to a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Kula Tersoo, the Assembly accused Dr. Chem of lacking good judgment and prioritizing personal interests over the greater good. Governor Alia has accepted the resolution and directed Dr. Chem to hand over to the administrative secretary of the commission with immediate effect.

The removal of Dr. Chem as SIEC chairman is seen as a move to ensure the integrity and impartiality of the electoral process in Benue State. The Governor’s swift action demonstrates his commitment to upholding the principles of good governance and public accountability.
