The Kano State Police Command has successfully apprehended at least 260 suspects who took advantage of the nationwide strike to engage in massive looting and destruction of properties on Thursday, August 1, 2024.
According to the Command’s spokesman, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the suspects were arrested for their involvement in acts of violence, destruction, looting, and harm to innocent civilians. The police recovered numerous items, including jerricans of groundnut oil, stationery, foodstuffs, and other valuable properties from the suspects.
The suspects are currently being held at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and will be charged in court upon completion of the investigation. The Commissioner of Police emphasized that it is the Nigeria Police Force’s responsibility to protect lives and properties.
The swift response of the Kano State Police Command has been commended for preventing further chaos and ensuring the safety of citizens and their properties. The police have assured that more arrests and recoveries are in progress.
