Dr. Dennis Osahon Aikoriogie, the gubernatorial candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) in Edo State, has recently unveiled his plans to improve the roads infrastructure in the state. The administration is set to engage Julius Berger as the main contractor to superintend the roads construction networks in the State.
Under Dr. Aikoriogie’s plans, all major roads that connect the state, such as the Benin-Lagos Road, Benin-Auchi-Ekpoma-Okpella Road, and Benin-Sapele Road, will be handled by Julius Berger and Setraco as main contractors to be transform into dual-carriageways. The Federal Roads can be tolled if the Federal government fails to reimburse the amount spent on road construction by the State government.
Additionally, feeder/access roads within the Benin City metropolis and other cities and towns across the three senatorial districts will be contracted to local contractors, with Julius Berger supervising to ensure compliance and delivery according to design specifications and quality. All constructed roads will be well-lit with digital cameras (CCTV), speed limit signs, pedestrian side-walk ways, and proper drainage systems.
The administration also plans to embark on aggressive stormwater/erosion/gully control in high incidence areas like Upper Mission Axis and Ekpoma. Flyovers will be constructed at key areas within Benin City Metropolis, such as Ramat Park, Ring Road, and 5-Junction axis, as well as a subway link road to the Oba’s Palace.
These ambitious plans signal Dr. Aikoriogie’s commitment to improving infrastructure in Edo State and ensuring the safety and efficiency of the roads for all residents. The people of Edo State can look forward to a brighter future under his leadership.
