Kano, Nigeria – In anticipation of the planned nationwide protest, the Kano business community has set up an ad-hoc security operations committee to ensure adequate security measures are in place across markets and business areas.
The 20-member committee, inaugurated on Saturday, comprises representatives from major markets and supermarkets in the city. Alhaji Sabi’u Bako, leader of the business community, announced the formation of the committee after an emergency meeting with stakeholders.
Alhaji Balarabe Tatari, Chairman of the Kantin Kwari Market Traders Association, emphasized the need for youth to refrain from engaging in disruptive activities, citing reports that the protest is expected to be peaceful. However, he noted that bad elements may infiltrate and cause chaos, highlighting the importance of protecting lives and properties.
The committee aims to put modalities in place to safeguard Kano’s business interests, recognizing the state’s status as a commercial hub. With the security committee in place, the business community is proactive in maintaining peace and stability during the upcoming protest.
