A suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion occurred at the popular Buni Yadi market in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State on Friday, injuring a young girl. The incident happened around 12:30 pm, according to resident Ali Hassan.
Captain Muhammad Shehu, spokesman for the Sector 2 Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, confirmed the explosion and reported that another IED was discovered and defused by the Army. He stated that the injured girl is receiving treatment at a local health facility.
Shehu emphasized that the incident was a planted IED and not a suicide bombing. Buni Yadi, located 54 kilometers from Damaturu, the state capital, was previously under Boko Haram control for two years and was severely affected by the insurgency.
The incident has raised concerns about the ongoing security challenges in the region, and authorities are working to ensure the safety of citizens and prevent future attacks.
