A Federal High Court in Benin City has convicted Olabinjor Ajobor, a businessman, to seven years imprisonment for defrauding George Ezomo of N12.5 million. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) disclosed this in a statement, stating that Ajobor was given an option to pay a fine of N500,000 and N12.5 million in restitution to the victim.
Ajobor was initially arraigned in 2018 and re-arraigned in July 2023 on a three-count charge of obtaining by false pretense. The presiding judge, Justice Chuka Obiozor, found Ajobor guilty, stating that the prosecution proved the charges beyond reasonable doubt.
During the trial, the prosecution presented three witnesses and tendered documents as evidence, revealing how Ajobor deceived the victim with a false investment promise. The judge sentenced Ajobor to seven years imprisonment, with the option to pay the fine and restitution. Additionally, the court ordered the closure of Ajobor’s company, Bisofrank Investment Limited.
