A Federal High Court in Abuja has reinstated Philip Shaibu as the Deputy Governor of Edo State, nullifying his earlier impeachment by the Edo State House of Assembly. Justice James Omotosho ruled that the impeachment process breached Section 188(1-9) of the Constitution and was politically motivated, citing Shaibu’s gubernatorial aspirations.
The court declared the appointment of Omobayo Godwins as Shaibu’s replacement illegal and ordered the Inspector General of Police to restore Shaibu’s security details immediately. Supporters of Shaibu celebrated the verdict at the court premises in Abuja.
This development marks a significant turn in the political landscape of Edo State, as Shaibu’s reinstatement is likely to have far-reaching implications for the state’s governance and political dynamics.
