The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has written a petition to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, condemning the appointment of transition committees by the All Progressives Congress-led government in Ondo State. The party alleges that the move violates the recent Supreme Court judgment granting autonomy to local governments and the Ondo High Court ruling declaring the Local Government Creation Law (2023) unconstitutional.
The NNPP accuses the Ondo State government of gross misconduct and disobedience of court judgments, demanding that the Attorney General, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, be stripped of his Senior Advocate of Nigeria title. The party argues that the appointment of transition committees is an attempt to undermine the court’s decisions and perpetuate illegality.
The petition comes after the Ondo State government clarified that the appointment was a lawful exercise of the governor’s constitutional powers to ensure seamless transition and continuity of government business. However, the NNPP insists that the action is a flagrant disobedience of court judgments and demands accountability.
