Senate to Transfer Election Conduct to INEC, Hails Tinubu for Landmark History

Senator Sunday Karimi, Chairman of the Senate Services Committee, has announced that the National Assembly will soon transfer the responsibility of conducting elections from state electoral bodies to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This comes after the Supreme Court’s landmark judgment granting financial autonomy to local government areas.

Senator Karimi praised President Bola Tinubu for allowing the judiciary to function independently, leading to this historic decision. He noted that Tinubu deserves commendation and a place in the nation’s “Hall of Fame” for returning power to the local governments and the masses.

The Senator acknowledged that some state governors may resist the change, but assured that the National Assembly will ensure compliance and amend the constitution to address any contentious issues. He emphasized that President Tinubu’s courage and concern for the masses have brought about this significant development, which will improve the existence of Nigerians.
