Former US President, Donald Trump has broken his silence on the recent assassination attempt against him during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
In an interview with the New York Post, Trump recounted the incident, stating, “I’m not supposed to be here, I’m supposed to be dead.” He described the event as a “miracle” and attributed his survival to luck or divine intervention.
“By luck or by God, many people are saying it’s by God I’m still here”, he said.
Trump revealed that he had turned his head to read a chart on illegal immigration moments before the shot was fired, which likely saved his life.
He praised the Secret Service agents who rushed to his aid, likening them to “linebackers” and noting that one agent took out the gunman with “one shot right between the eyes.”
The former president also shared his surprise at the calm demeanor of the rally audience.
He said:.
“A lot of places… you hear a single shot, everybody runs. Here, there were many shots, and they stayed.”
He expressed his appreciation for the “fine” and “very nice” call he received from President Biden following the incident, hinting that their rivalry might become less contentious in the future.
Trump described the iconic photo of him raising his fist amidst the chaos, saying, “A lot of people say it’s the most iconic photo they’ve ever seen. I just wanted to keep speaking, but I just got shot.”
He expressed his love for the rally attendees, calling them “such great people.”
Despite the ordeal, Trump seemed unfazed, declaring, “I love them. They are such great people.”
