Benedicta Elechi, who is the wife of a media personality Daddy Freeze, has sparked a heated debate on social media after sharing her side of the story in the controversial adultery case and fine.
According to Hobnob News reports, the Court of Appeal had upheld a N5m fine against Daddy Freeze for depriving her ex-husband, Paul Odekina, of her companionship and causing him injury due to adultery.
Mrs Benedicta’s reveled that she initiated the divorce proceedings 12 years ago due to difference in sexual orientations and began her relationship with Daddy Freeze during the prolonged divorce process. Apparently this has drawn sympathy from many Nigerians. They are blaming the judiciary system for taking too long to handle the case, leaving her in limbo for over a decade.
Twelve years is too long for a divorce case to drag on! The judiciary system needs to be overhauled,” said one commenter. “Why should someone be punished for finding love again when the system failed to expedite the divorce process?” asked another.
Benedicta’s courage in speaking out has earned her widespread support, with many praising her for taking a stand and challenging the status quo. Her story has also sparked a broader conversation about the need for judicial reform in Nigeria.
“What Benedicta went through is a clear example of how our judiciary system fails people, especially women. It’s time for change,” said a social media user.
Below are some reactions to the Adultery Fine;
@gorgeous_pola: @tastebudzng You’re such a hardworking woman with a focus and God’s blessings on your life is obviously hitting hard on those that hate you. Starting all over again isn’ta small feat but you’ve built a mansion from the rocks thrown at you. Don’t be discouraged Benedicta. Focus on the positives. More blessings.
@sheshoneydew: Sending love and hugs. You’re only facing criticism because your success is surprising them. Keep soaring higher and let them talk even more.
@trukalabari: It’s been 12 yrs for goodness sake! You are married to a man that adores you and the marriage is blessed with children. You owe no one an explanation, especially the public. Your ex husband is bitter because you were supposed to spend the rest of your life being his cover whilst he roams around town being on the DL. Let your ex move to any it the Western countries that accept his way of life so he too can live freely with a man of his choice. Abeg, i was to see your Sunday meals, not you wasting time you could be spend with your husband to address frustrated people and their gossips.
Apparently, Mrs Benedicta’s bravery has inspired many, and her story may bring about change in the days to come.
