Senator Caught Buying Black Market Fuel for Ferrari Amidst Abuja Fuel Scarcity, Sparks Outrage

A former Nigerian Senator was caught on camera buying black market fuel for his Ferrari amidst fuel scarcity in Abuja.

Ex-Senator Dino Melaye, who once represented Kogi West, was caught on video buying fuel from a black market vendor to fill up his luxury Ferrari, with the custom plate “Dino 1”, at an undisclosed location, sparking widespread criticism on social media.
Melaye was seen in a viral video filling up his luxury car’s tank with fuel sold by a roadside vendor.

The video sparked outrage and ridicule on social media, with many Nigerians expressing disgust at the Senator’s actions.

“This is a clear case of double standard,” said one commenter. “They are the ones responsible for the fuel scarcity, yet they are buying fuel in the black market while we suffer.”

The incident highlights the stark contrast between the privileged lives of Nigeria’s elite and the struggles of everyday citizens. As one Twitter user noted, “They are the ones making the laws, yet they are the ones breaking them. They are the ones causing the fuel scarcity, yet they are the ones buying fuel in the black market.”

The video has sparked calls for accountability and transparency in government. “This is a disgrace to our democracy,” said another commenter. “They are supposed to be serving us, not themselves.”

The Senator’s actions have also raised questions about the fuel scarcity in Abuja, which has left many residents stranded and frustrated. “If they can buy fuel in the black market, why can’t we?” asked one resident. “It’s just not fair.”

The incident is a stark reminder of the corruption and inequality that plagues Nigeria’s political system. As one social media user noted, “This is what happens when those in power are more interested in lining their own pockets than serving the people.”

President Bola Tinubu at his inauguration in May 29 announced the end of fuel subsidy, culminating in the hike of pump price from about 197 naira per liter to around 700 naira per liter of petrol.
