A finance professional, identified as Luca, has expressed his outrage and disappointment with the Metropolitan Police’s handling of his luxury watch theft case.
The incident occurred in September last year at a Chelsea restaurant, where three men stole his Rolex watch off his wrist.
Despite chasing the suspects and catching one of them, the Met Police failed to gather CCTV footage and suggested that Luca drop the case due to potential threats to his safety.
Luca described the theft as happening in “one millisecond” and expressed frustration with the police’s inability to catch the perpetrators.
He stated, “There has been a complete failure of the system to catch those responsible for the crime. The Met Police could do better.”
The Met Police spokesperson apologized for the victim’s experience, saying, “We are sorry to hear that the victim feels let down and remain regretful that we were not able to achieve justice in this case.”
However, Luca claimed that an officer suggested he drop the case to avoid potential retaliation and that the suspect would likely receive only a few hours of community service if convicted.
Luca has lost faith in the UK’s police and justice system and is planning to leave the country due to the force’s handling of the incident. The Met Police acknowledged issues with securing CCTV footage and apologized for inadequate communication with Luca. They emphasized their commitment to preventing robberies and urged Londoners to remain vigilant.
In a statement, the Met Police said, “Robbery is an awful crime that has a lasting impact on victims. We are committed to preventing these crimes and ensuring that victims receive the justice they deserve.” However, Luca’s experience raises questions about the effectiveness of the Metropolitan Police in addressing luxury watch thefts and their support for victims.
