A woman, identified as Yetunde Adeyanju, has been apprehended by authorities for attempting to smuggle drugs into Nigeria’s Kuje Prison. According to a statement by the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Adeyanju was caught with a large quantity of illicit drugs concealed in a food item while attempting to visit an inmate.
“The suspect, Yetunde Adeyanju, was arrested at the prison gate while trying to smuggle in the contraband hidden in a food item,” said Francis Enobore, the NCoS Public Relations Officer. “Upon thorough searching, our officers discovered the drugs and promptly apprehended the suspect.”
Adeyanju allegedly attempted to smuggle the drugs to an inmate, identified as Augustine Akpunku, who is currently serving a sentence at the prison. The drugs, which included 14 wraps of skunk and 10 wraps of tramadol, were discovered during a routine search by prison officials.
“The suspect claimed she was unaware of the content of the item, but our investigation revealed otherwise,” Enobore added. “The matter is currently under investigation, and the suspect will be charged to court upon completion.”
The arrest is part of the NCoS’s efforts to combat drug trafficking and other criminal activities within the prison system. “We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of our facilities and inmates,” Enobore assured. “We appreciate the support of the public in our efforts to rid our society of criminal elements.”
