President Bola Tinubu has welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision affirming the constitutional rights of local governments, describing it as a historic significance that reinforces Nigeria’s federal fabric. The judgement ensures financial autonomy for local governments, enabling them to provide essential amenities and services to their communities.
Tinubu noted that ineffective local government administration has hindered Nigeria’s advancement, but this decision empowers local leaders to deliver people-oriented services. He emphasized that his administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” focuses on benefiting all Nigerians, regardless of background or affiliation.
The President commended the Attorney-General, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), for his efforts and reiterated his commitment to protecting the principles of the constitution, building an efficient governance system that works for every Nigerian.
