United States President, Joe Biden has reaffirmed his commitment to running for president in the November election, despite calls for him to step down following a forgettable debate with his main challenger, Donald Trump.
In a letter to Democratic lawmakers, Biden urged an end to the “intraparty drama” that has divided the party since the debate, saying, “The question of how to move forward has been well-aired for over a week now; and it’s time for it to end.”
Biden’s letter emphasized the need for unity and focus on defeating Trump, rather than dwelling on his own debate performance.
He wrote, “We have 42 days to the Democratic Convention and 119 days to the general election. Any weakening of resolve or lack of clarity about the task ahead only helps Trump and hurts us.”
Biden says it’s time for Democrats to come together and move forward as a unified party.
Biden’s letter served as a rallying cry for Democrats to put aside their differences and work towards a common goal: defeating Donald Trump.
As lawmakers return to Washington, they will decide whether to support Biden’s candidacy or consider alternative options, such as nominating Vice President Kamala Harris to replace him on the ticket.
However, Biden’s letter made it clear that he intends to see his candidacy through to the end.
