24-Year-Old Owowoh Becomes First Female Nigerian to Achieve Lieutenant Rank

The Nigerian Defence Academy on Wednesday announced that Second Lieutenant Oluchukwu Owowoh has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja.

The NDA Commandant, Major General JO Ochai, praised Owowoh’s exceptional record as a cadet, which earned her a place in history as the first female Nigerian to train at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

The NDA statement partly read:

“Speaking during the decoration ceremony, the NDA Commandant extolled the track record of excellence of Lt. Owowoh which accorded her the rare privilege of becoming the first female Nigerian to be trained at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and her promotion to the new rank.”

The ceremony was attended by senior military officers, staff, and family members.

24-year-old Owowoh made headlines in April when she became the first Nigerian female officer to graduate from Sandhurst.
