The Sokoto State Government has admonished Vice President Kashim Shettima to verify facts before commenting on sensitive national issues.
This follows Shettima’s public warning at the Northwest Security Summit in Katsina.
The Sokoto government in it’s reaction said the Vice President to have contacted Governor Ahmed Aliyu to confirm the news about the purported plan to depose Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar before speaking out.
According to Abubakar Bawa, Governor Aliyu’s spokesman, the Vice President should have full knowledge of national issues before commenting.
The statement read in part:
“We expected the Vice President to have consulted the Governor before going public.
“As an elder statesman, he should have facts and figures before judging issues raised by mischief makers”.
“The fact is, there was no attempt to sack the Sultan. We never denied him his freedom or rights. It’s our sole responsibility to guard, protect, and promote the Sultan.”
