A young woman identified as Anja Christoffersen, 25, has shared her journey living with a rare congenital condition called cloaca.
Born without a crucial part of her digestive system and urinary tract, Anja has undergone 25 operations and faces lifelong challenges with incontinence, urinary tract infections, and pneumonia.
Despite this, she remains determined. “I grew up with the belief that I could do whatever I set my mind to, despite my congenital condition,” she said.
With two vaginal canals, two wombs, and one opening, Anja’s condition affects one in 50,000 girls.
She has had to overcome numerous challenges, including chronic constipation, abdominal issues, and reproductive and urinary system problems.
“It doesn’t have to have an impact on your quality of life and the dreams that you can achieve.”
Now a fashion model, Anja walks the runways and advocates for others with cloaca.
“When I was younger, I was in and out of hospital with chest and urinary infections, chronic constipation… further medical imaging, treatment and surgeries”, she said.
