The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to social inclusion, gender equality, and youth empowerment, with a focus on menstrual health and hygiene. According to the government, the state continues to lead in implementing interventions to positively impact the menstrual health and hygiene of girls and women. The administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus agenda prioritizes reproductive health rights, gender equality, and youth empowerment, ensuring inclusivity for all citizens regardless of social or gender status.
The government has urged stakeholders, including the private sector, civil society, and individuals, to join in advancing menstrual hygiene, ensuring every woman and girl can manage her menstruation safely, hygienically, and with pride. The National Program Manager of the Voice for Change and Development (VCDF), Mr. James Odey, emphasized the importance of keeping adolescent girls in school, citing statistics that show most out-of-school children are girls facing menstruation-related issues.
The VCDF aims to ensure girls remain in school, take care of themselves, and raise awareness to help their peers.
