Frmer Bauchi State Governor Isa Yuguda has absolved President Bola Tinubu of responsibility for the current economic hardship and high inflation facing Nigerians. Speaking at the All Progressives Congress Professionals Forum’s Asiwaju Scorecard Series in Abuja, Yuguda emphasized that the economy was already struggling before Tinubu took office.
Yuguda acknowledged the challenges posed by rising food costs and inflation but argued that the current administration should not be solely blamed. He credited Tinubu with taking bold measures and reforms, including removing fuel subsidies and floating the naira, which have helped mitigate the crisis.
According to Yuguda, Tinubu inherited numerous burdens, including the subsidy scam, corruption in the civil service, and the economic impact of the COVID-19 lockdown. He noted that despite these challenges, the president has championed reforms to pave the way for a better society.
Yuguda also highlighted the success of the fuel subsidy removal, citing a 50% reduction in petrol importation since June 2023. He expressed optimism that local production at the Dangote refinery and the resumption of production at the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries will further alleviate the situation.
The former governor’s comments aim to deflect criticism from the current administration and emphasize the need for continued support and understanding from Nigerians as the government works to address the economic challenges.
