Nigeria’s Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is threatening another nationwide strike over the continued absence of governing councils in federal universities.
ASUU President Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, speaking at a press conference in Abuja, condemned the government’s dissolution of university governing councils in May 2023. He warned that the union will hold the government responsible for any disruptions caused by a potential strike.
The governing councils play a critical role in university administration, handling issues like budgeting, appointments, and policy development. Their absence has sparked concerns about university autonomy and decision-making processes.
