XEJET Aircraft Loses Traction, Skids Off Runway in Lagos

A Nigerian aircraft, XEJET Airlines’ 5N-BZZ, “skidded off the runway and landed in the grass” at Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, on Saturday.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has closed the 18/Left runway following the incident.

The Airbus, carrying 52 passengers, departed Abuja and landed in Lagos at 11:29 am. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) confirmed the incident, stating that the aircraft “skidded off the runway of the domestic wing of the airport.”

A “go team” has been deployed to the site, and the Rescue Team promptly evacuated the 52 passengers and 3 children on board. The runway has been closed to traffic pending further investigation.
