Hoodlums suspected to be from Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State are reported to have attacked Imankodi and Iyeche in Oju Local Government Area.
According to a Facebook user, Ogi John Otor, the invaders destroyed houses and farmlands and killed scores of people in the area.
Ogi further disclosed that “many are still missing in the bush, and others with gunshot wounds are currently receiving treatment in different hospitals in Oju LG.”
While calling on Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia to wade into the matter and carry out a demarcation between the two local government areas, he appealed to the House of Representatives member, Hon. David A. Ogewu, to draw the attention of the federal government.
“I trust the leadership of Gov. Alia to be a government that frowns at such attacks, and I am calling on the government to rise up and protect the lives and properties of Benue citizens in Imankodi, Oju LG. I am equally calling on Hon. David A. Ogewu, house committee chairman of the Army, Federal House of Representatives Abuja, to draw the attention of the Federal Government to this crisis.
“I am calling on the government of Benue State to carry out boundary demarcation, which is the easiest way to put an end to these land disputes across the length and breadth of Benue State.”
Citizen Television gathered that Ogi John Otor also appealed for the government to immediately restore peace so that the warring communities could return to their farms.
“The farming season is here, and we want the government to wade into this matter and restore peace to these warring communities so that they can return to their farms with immediate effect.”
