Peter Obi Condemns Deportation of Osun State Citizens by Lagos Authorities

The Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi has expressed his deep sadness and shock over the recent deportation of citizens, mostly from Osun State, by the Lagos State authorities.

Obi described the action as “distasteful” and warned of its far-reaching effects on national cohesion and development.

Obi, a former Anambra Governor, opposed the deportation, stating that every Nigerian, regardless of their state of origin or place of residence, deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.

He emphasized that the Nigerian Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to reside and find livelihood in any part of the federation.

Obi urged Nigerians to remain calm and vigilant as they await the outcome of the investigation into the deportation. He also assured that the security agencies in Osun State are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety and well-being of the deported youths.

In his statement, Obi called for a united Nigeria where every citizen is accorded dignity and respect, regardless of their background or place of origin or residence. He reiterated his commitment to a new and different Nigeria, achievable through unity and collective effort.
