Gunmen suspected to be assassins have killed the traditional ruler of Umuihe autonomous community, Akaeze in Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, HRH Umazi Ibo Ubani.
The community is in mourning and confusion after the tragic incident, which occurred on Friday around 10 pm.
According to Hon. Chinasa Okorie, Coordinator of Akaeze Development Centre, the late 60-year-old Ubani was a “bold, fearless and intelligent monarch” who was “a man of integrity” and will be difficult to replace.
The killing has caused tension in the community, with markets and shops remaining closed.
The police are currently trailing the assailants, who fled the scene before their arrival. This incident marks the third suspected assassination in Ebonyi State within two weeks.
