Lagos Police Arrest Suspected Fraudsters Preying on Unsuspecting Victims

Officers from the Isokoko Division of the Lagos State Police Command have apprehended two suspected fraudsters, Seyi Demola, 26, and Wale Lawson, 27, following a distress call by vigilant members of the public.

The spokesperson for the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest of the suspects, who were found in possession of two female handbags, cash, and an iPhone during the operation.

A preliminary investigation conducted by the police revealed that Demola and Lawson had defrauded multiple victims using deceptive tactics.

One victim shared her harrowing experience, recounting how she was approached by one of the suspects masquerading as a prophet. The fraudsters instructed her to engage in a prayer ritual involving the exchange of personal belongings, ultimately leading to the loss of her bag and valuables.

The victim described how the suspects manipulated her during the ordeal, including requesting her phone password under false pretenses of blessings and warning her against looking back to avoid a biblical fate.

Fortunately, the fraudulent duo’s attempt to flee was foiled by alert bystanders, exposing their coordinated scheme and preventing further harm to the victim.

The Lagos State Police Command is urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement. Demola and Lawson are currently in police custody pending further investigation and will face charges for their alleged involvement in fraudulent activities.

The command reassured the public of its commitment to combatting criminal activities and safeguarding the well-being of Lagos residents, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in addressing fraudulent practices in the state.
