Exactly eight hundred houses in Benue State that are located near waterways will be demolished.When the rainy season begins, this will aid in preventing floods.
In Makurdi, the state capital, Mede Ternongo, general manager of the State Urban Development Board, disclosed this to the media on Thursday.
On Wednesday, the board started tearing down over forty illegal buildings that were blocking the state capital of Makurdi’s key thoroughfares.
He continued by saying that the exercise was a part of the state government’s attempt to reinvigorate the state capital and that the board was tasked with restoring the city to its ideal state.
He stated that during the first part of the operation, developers’ blockades of open routes had been loosened, and more than forty shantytowns established around the town had been swept out.
Ternongo claims that the activity will take place over the whole city of Makurdi and would persist in regions where access routes are being blocked by developers.
“We intend to open the major access routes and roads in the city,” he said. We are now in the Southbank district of Makurdi and will soon be relocating to the North Bank neighborhood. The roadside and surrounding scenery in the North Bank area near the Catholic church have been degraded by containers scattered along the fence.

He went on to remark that the exercise was made feasible by the governor’s provision of the logistics.”The governor has committed to providing us with operational vehicles, payloaders, and bulldozers to make our tasks easier.”
