Container Vessel with 566 Cargo Units Arrives at Onne Port

The Onne Port Complex of the Nigerian Ports Authority has received a large vessel, the ‘Kota Cempaka’, carrying 566 containers.

According to a statement released on Saturday, the vessel, sailing under the Singaporean flag, measures 300 meters in length overall.

The successful berthing of the vessel demonstrates the agency’s capacity and readiness for large ship calls.

As stated, “The vessel christened Kota Cempaka with International Maritime Organization number 9638965 sailing under the flag of Singapore shipped in 566 containers.”

The Managing Director of the NPA, Mohammed Bello-KoKo, said, “This is a confirmation of the capacity and readiness of eastern ports for vessel traffic.

“This also shows that our investments in channel navigability and security are yielding results. We will sustain our advocacy for the patronage of the eastern ports.”

Bello-Koko also noted, “a development that shows that the port is poised to sustain its growing fortunes,” referring to the port’s previous berthing of Maersk Stadelhorn and MV Lady Jane.

The Onne Port Complex, situated in Rivers State, operates under the landlord port model, encouraging private sector participation.

In a similar development, the Nigerian Ports Authority announced the berthing of the largest container vessel to dock at a Nigerian port in August 2020, as stated by Mr. Adams Jatto, General Manager, Corporate and Strategic Communications.
