Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of Science and Technology under former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, has sadly passed away.
According to a reliable source close to him, Onu, a distinguished Nigerian politician, author, and engineer, breathed his last in April 2024.
He was one of the signatories of the historic merger of three political parties (ACJ, ANPP, CPC) that led to the formation of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He held several significant roles in his career, including being the first civilian governor of Abia State.
He served as Nigeria’s Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation from November 2015 until his resignation in 2022, making him the longest-serving minister in the ministry’s history.
His contributions to the advancement of science and technology in Nigeria will be fondly remembered.
