CBN Staff Expresses Fear Of Sack

Some staffs of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) have expressed their constant fear amid the ongoing wave of layoffs following the appointment of Dr. Olayemi Cardoso as the Governor.

The CBN employees stated that no department is immune to the ongoing dismissals within the apex bank.

The apex bank’s workforce voiced their concerns in response to the termination of another 50 colleagues’ employment on Monday.

Within the past 20 days, approximately 117 individuals spanning 29 departments have been let go.

The termination affects various positions, including directors, deputy directors, assistant directors, principal managers, senior managers, and lower-ranking staff.

One staff member expressed their concern, stating, “We have witnessed indiscriminate dismissals in procurement, development finance, and the medical services department. This suggests that other departments may soon face similar actions.”

Another senior staff member remarked, “Many individuals who received termination letters quietly vacated their offices. They feel powerless due to the structure of the system.”

Under Cardoso’s leadership, the CBN has undergone numerous changes, both in policies and personnel, diverging from the practices of his predecessor, Godwin Emefiele.

Furthermore, there have been complaints from vendors, some of whom completed contracts with the CBN since last June, as their payments are indefinitely delayed under the new management.

These delays stem from suspicions that vendors may have benefited from Emefiele’s administration.
