The Ogun State Police Command has issued a cautionary message to women, urging them to exercise caution when engaging in ‘hook-up’ encounters with strangers, emphasizing the hidden dangers associated with such encounters.
Defined as meeting someone new or familiar and engaging in sexual activities without any commitment to a relationship, ‘hook-up’ engagements have been flagged by the police as potentially hazardous.
In a statement shared on the command’s verified social media handle, the message highlighted the risks of ‘hooking up’ and its potential consequences, especially in terms of personal safety.
The post read: “Avoid being a victim of ritual killing: Hook up and its dangers! You may go and never return. Girls wake up! Young girls, do you know who you are being hooked up to? That person may exchange your beautiful head for peanuts. All that glitters is not gold!”
The warning comes in the wake of reported instances where young women suspected to be sex workers were seen loitering around upscale areas and shopping centers in Lagos, allegedly attempting to lure potential clients.
As the police continue to heighten awareness about the dangers inherent in casual hook-ups, they advise women to prioritize their safety and well-being when engaging in social encounters with strangers.
