Mrs Yuki Gambaryan, the spouse of a Binance executive detained by the Nigerian government, Tigran Gambaryan, has urged the United States government to intervene in her husband’s ongoing detention in Nigeria.
Yuki conveyed her plea through US Senator Cory Booker and Congresswoman Sara Jacobs, who led a delegation to President Bola Tinubu at the State House on Wednesday.
In a statement provided to journalists, she stated, “For over 30 days, the Nigerian government has held my husband without formally charging him with any crime.
“Instead, they have accused him of being accountable for his employer’s actions without engaging in negotiations with the company in a manner consistent with international standards.
“In essence, my husband is being detained as a form of coercion. As these members of Congress journey across Nigeria, I implore them to urge the Nigerians to release Tigran and pursue their investigation directly with Binance through appropriate channels.”
Gambaryan had filed a lawsuit against the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, and the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged violation of his fundamental rights.
Gambaryan, through his lawyer Olujoke Aliyu from Aluko and Oyebode Law Firm, sought five reliefs before Justice Inyang Ekwo in the originating motion dated and filed on March 18.
Additionally, Nadeem Anjarwalla, Binance’s Africa regional manager, who escaped from custody on March 22, filed a separate suit for the enforcement of his rights before Justice Ekwo.
The Office of the NSA confirmed the escape of one of the detained Binance executives, Nadeem Anjarwalla, from custody.
In February, Gambaryan, a US citizen and Binance’s head of financial crime compliance, along with his colleague Nadeem Anjarwalla, who has fled custody, were detained by the Nigerian government for financial and related offenses.
