The Senate plans to lift the suspension of Senator Abdul Ningi (PDP – Bauchi Central) after his three-month suspension, according to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Akpabio mentioned this while speaking to reporters upon his return from the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) meeting in Geneva, Switzerland.
He stated that the Senate will review Ningi’s suspension, which was imposed for alleging that the 2024 budget was “allegedly padded with the sum of N3.7 trillion.”
Ningi, through his counsel Femi Falana SAN, had given Akpabio seven days to lift the suspension or face legal action.
Although Akpabio hasn’t seen the letter yet, he assured that it’s being addressed.
He expressed optimism that the matter would be resolved internally, likening the Senate to a family, and hoped Ningi would return sooner than expected.
Akpabio emphasized that Ningi is part of the Senate and believed the issue would be resolved smoothly.
