The Ochanja Market in the Woliwo community of Onitsha South local government area, Anambra State reports, indicate that a road recently constructed by the Governor Chukwuma Soludo government has been washed away by an afternoon downpour, just one week after its completion.
There was a viral video circulating on Monday night which captured the aftermath of the rain, revealing the washed-out road with coated asphalts piled out and scattered pieces, along with water-logged sections.Concerns have been raised by residents regarding the quality of work carried out by the administration, despite the significant investment of taxpayers’ money into various projects across the state.
Lots of questions arose over how a mere 20-minute rainfall managed to cause such extensive damage to a road constructed just a week prior, prompting fears about the durability of other government projects in the face of upcoming rainy seasons.
In a social media post accompanying the video, one commentator highlighted the collapse of a government-built storey building at the same Ochanja Market a few weeks prior, underscoring the pattern of poorly executed construction projects by government contractors.
The post expressed apprehension about the potential revelation of more inadequately executed projects as the rainy season progresses, highlighting the need for accountability and transparency in government-led initiatives.
For now, the Anambra State government has yet to respond to the viral video on the road or provide clarification regarding the incident’s impact on the market and its infrastructure.
