The Northern Senators Forum commends ECOWAS for lifting sanctions on Niger Republic

The Northern Senators Forum (NSF) has expressed its appreciation for the leaders of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for their decision to lift sanctions imposed on Niger Republic following the military takeover on 26th July, 2023. In a statement released by the NSF Publicity Secretary, Senator Suleiman Kawu Sumaila, the forum commended ECOWAS for its responsive and compassionate approach to addressing the critical issues related to Niger Republic.

The statement highlighted the positive implications of lifting the sanctions, including the alleviation of suffering for the people of Niger Republic, the restoration of stability and economic prosperity in the region, and the fostering of regional integration, trade, and cooperation. The NSF also emphasized the importance of ECOWAS’ decision in promoting democracy, rule of law, and regional solidarity.
