The Enugu State government has frowned at the indiscriminate price hike of Premium Motor Spirit by petroleum marketers in the state.
Hobnob news observed that long queues surfaced in the state on Tuesday over a news of possible fuel scarcity and some marketers seized the opportunity to exploit motorists by selling for as high as ₦800 per litre.
Apparently, the Commissioner for Special Duties, Ajogwu Sunday Emeka in a public service announcement said “Enugu State government has observed with dismay the inconsiderate and unnecessary hike in petroleum products in the state by petroleum marketers.
“It is, therefore, unfortunate that marketers in the state have continued to sell petroleum products at an outrageous price.
It was added by Ajogwu that “This is most unpatriotic and unacceptable to the government and people of Enugu State.
“As a result, government hereby directs all petroleum marketers to revert to the status quo ante, that is, the price that existed before the sudden hike. Grave consequences await anyone who flouts this directive.
“Government is in contact with the leaders of the IPMAN to ensure that Ndi Enugu are not shortchanged by individuals who are merely profiteering from a situation that never took place.”
