Emure Ekiti, Ado-Ekiti – In a dramatic turn of events, the kidnapped school pupils and their teachers in Emure Ekiti have been released. The pupils and teachers, numbering nine, who were kidnapped in their school bus along Emure Eporo road last week, were freed around 2 a.m. today.
Mr. Adebayo Oluwatosin, Chairman of Emure Local Government, confirmed the release in a telephone conversation with newsmen this morning. He revealed that the victims were currently in the palace of Elemure of Emure Ekiti. Tragically, the driver of the school bus was killed, while the remaining eight victims regained their freedom.
Sunday Abutu, Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti State Police Command, also confirmed the release of the victims. He stated, “All victims were rescued today at about 1:30 a.m., but unfortunately, we lost the driver who was suspectedly killed by the abductors.”
After their release, the victims were promptly taken to the hospital for medical check-ups and are reported to be in stable condition, according to Abutu.
