The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has reported that Mr. David Tanko of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged as the winner of the Chikun constituency seat for the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
The announcement was made by the Returning Officer, Prof. Jamilu Ya’u of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, on Sunday in Kaduna. Tanko secured victory with 18,566 votes, defeating his closest rival, Mrs. Maria Samuel-Dogo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 10,903 votes.
Adumu Solomon of the Labour Party (LP) came in third with 3,285 votes.
The re-run and by-election for the state and federal constituencies in Kaduna State were held on Saturday, covering six constituencies spread across seven local government areas including Chikun, Igabi, Kaduna South, Kudan, Kachia, Kagarko, and Kauru.
In total, there were 1,114 polling units and more than 639,914 registered voters in the constituencies. David Tanko’s victory in the Chikun constituency represents a significant win for the APC in the state House of Assembly.
