US Approves Groundbreaking $1 Billion Arms Sale To Nigeria

The United States Department of Defense has confirmed the sale of arms to Nigeria to help enhance the country’s military capabilities in the face of escalating security challenges.

The arms deal is valued at $1 billion and it include the acquisition of 12 AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters.

As part of the contract, 32 mission computers will be supplied by Northrop Grumman, with an additional contract valued at $7.7 million awarded in December to further bolster the West African Nation defence capabilities.

The state-of-the-art AH-1Z Viper helicopters acquisition is meant for completion in June 2024.

The AH-1Z Viper, a versatile attack helicopter designed for various missions, including reconnaissance, escort, and strike operations, is expected to bolster Nigeria’s military strength.

The acquisition of the AH-1Z Viper helicopters is seen by industry experts as a right step needed to address and counteract the diverse security threats within Nigeria borders.
