A suspected kidnapper who allegedly attempted to bribe a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) with N1 million to compromise the case has been arrested by police operatives in Kaduna State.
According to the spokesperson of the Kaduna Police Command, ASP Mamsir Hassan, “following the directives of the Commissioner of Police Kaduna State Command, CP A.D. Ali, psc, to personnel to be proactive in their operation using intelligence-based policing approach, operatives attached to Police Divisional Headquarters Tafa, Kaduna, have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered a shared ransom.”
Hassan also revealed that the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Bello Muhammad from Zamfara State, was apprehended at Easyway hotel in Tafa town. The police recovered the sum of two million, three hundred and fifty thousand naira (N2,350,000.00) from Muhammad, suspected to be proceeds of kidnapping.
Muhammad confessed to being a kidnapper who operates with his gang around Kagarko Forest in Kaduna. His mobile phone contained pictures of him brandishing an AK47 rifle in a forest, further implicating him in the crime.
Additionally, during the investigation, Muhammad offered a million-naira bribe to the DPO to stop further investigation. The DPO rejected the bribe, and Muhammad is now assisting the police with vital information as the investigation continues.
The Commissioner of Police Kaduna State Command, CP A.D. Ali, commended the Tafa Division’s operatives for their swift action and urged them to continue their efforts in reducing crime in the state. He also advised hoteliers, recreation, and leisure service operators to scrutinize the identity of their customers to prevent criminals from finding safe havens.
The arrest of the suspected kidnapper and the rejection of the bribe by the DPO reflect the commitment of the Kaduna State Police Command to fighting crime and ensuring justice is served.
