The Lagos State Government has banned the use of disposable packs known as Styrofoam in the state due to environmental pollution.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment & Water Affairs, Lagos State, Tokunbo Wahab in a statement says the ban takes immediate effect.
“Following the menace which single-use plastics especially non-biodegradable Styrofoam are causing on the environment, the Lagos State government (@followlasg ) through the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources (@LasgMOE ) is hereby announcing a ban on the usage and distribution of Styrofoam and other single-use plastics in the State with immediate effect”, the statement read.
Many residents of the nation’s commercial capital have berated the development, with some of them positing that instead of the ban, the ministry of environment should control the disposal and distribution.
